FAQ

DO I NEED EXPERIENCE?

Nope! A lot of our archers, both competitive and recreational, come to us with no prior experience or have only shot once or twice some years ago. We will teach you the fundamentals of archery (form, stance, safety, etc.) and all you need to do is work your way up from there.

WHO IS ALLOWED TO JOIN?

Anyone who is currently affiliated with UT. This includes students and faculty that have a UT Recsports membership. No experience is required.

I’M NOT AFFILIATED WITH UT, AM I STILL ALLOWED TO JOIN/SHOOT WITH THE CLUB?

Unfortunately, no as it would be against University policy. While you can’t join the club there are other Austin archery opportunities, such as Central Texas Archery and the Archery Training Center & Austin JOAD.

WHAT ARE THE DUES?

Semester dues are $50. Dues are paid through the online RecSports store, or by cash or check if necessary. Check our resources page for a how-to guide.

DO YOU PROVIDE EQUIPMENT?

Yes, we do! We provide all members of the club with beginner’s bows to use during practice. If you have your own equipment, you are more than welcome to bring and use it as well, as long as it complies with the university’s safety regulations. Bows cannot have a draw weight over 60 lbs, and we do not allow broadhead arrows to be shot on our range.

WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE CLUB?

We have no requirements for any of the archers of the club other than paying dues and completing the appropriate paperwork.

WHEN DO Y’ALL PRACTICE?

Typically, we host 2 weekend practices and 2 weekday practices. Standard weekend practices are Saturday from 9 am to 11 am, and Sunday from 2 pm to 4 pm. Weekday practices vary by semester. Refer to our schedule for more details. Practice hours are subject to change according to weather and Daylight Savings Time.

WHERE DO Y’ALL PRACTICE?

We practice on our very own outdoor range at the Whitaker Outdoor Sports Complex. You must enter through the main gates of the complex on Guadalupe St. and walk to the tree line. Click here to download an interactive guide on getting to the archery fields.

HOW OFTEN DO I HAVE TO COME TO PRACTICE?

Although we do have set hours for practice, all of our practices are optional. There is no minimum amount of time required for members to participate to maintain club membership. We understand that life gets in the way and that school is important. Feel free to come to as many or as few practices as you’d like!

I WANT TO COMPETE FOR THE TEAM! HOW DO I DO THAT?

If you feel confident about how you’re shooting after your practices, you are more than welcome to shoot with us at competitions. All we ask is that you show that you are dedicated to putting in the hours towards improving yourself and supporting the club through volunteering. Ask an officer or coach during practice to discuss more about upcoming tournaments you might be able to participate in!

I'D LIKE TO MAKE A DONATION TO THE CLUB. HOW DO I DO THAT?

Email us at utarchery@gmail.com and we can discuss methods of receiving donations! You can also donate during UT's annual campus-wide fundraiser, 40 for Forty. Majority of our annual fundraising is done through this event, and there are a number of incentives and donation match periods that help make the most of your generous gifts. All donations to the club are tax-deductible. Thank you!

I HAVE A SPECIFIC QUESTION. WHERE DO I ASK IT?
